Katy’s Beginnings

Katy was born in rural Bond County Illinois. At the age of 8, her family moved to Collinsville, IL where she attended the local public schools. While in school, she learned about hard work, team work, and fair play in the classroom, in band, and on the softball field. Her hard work earned her a varsity letters in band and softball, captain of the softball team as a senior, and landed her on the honor roll several times.

After high school, she attended Quincy University in Quincy, IL on a partial academic scholarship. There, she took on the leadership role of Resident Assistant and also joined Alpha Omicron Pi fraternity for women. Both of these opportunities taught her the importance of leadership and service to the community.

Career Experience

Since graduating in 2004 with a BS in Chemistry, she has utilized her degree to work in the environmental testing and health and nutrition sectors of the technology industry in both quality and research roles. While working full time, she earned a MS in Chemistry from St. Louis University in 2010. In the same time frame, she also earned a Six-Sigma Green Belt in method and process improvement.

Since 2009, she has volunteered as an adviser for two collegiate chapters of Alpha Omicron Pi. As an adviser, she has mentored hundreds of young women when it comes to leadership, organization, and conflict resolution. Her time as an adviser has shown her the value of helping others realize their full potential by helping them seize the opportunities around them.

The Future: Serving Missouri

With her experience as a researcher and mentor to young women, Katy has grown strong in her abilities to problem solve and work through complex issues. She plans on utilizing these skills in Washington to help the people of Missouri have their voices heard.
